SURVEY CAMP

SURVEY CAMP

A 5 day survey camp is organized by WCTM every year for the students of Civil Engineering. It provides a great opportunity for the students to focus on their work and explore their inner capabilities in the appropriate manner. As we know that Civil Engineering requires a lot of practical knowledge and for this students need to have the correct approach towards putting their theoretical knowledge into actual practice on field. The survey camp is conducted in areas where group students are able to explore the specific points and determine the relative positions of these points on or above the surface of the earth by means of direct or indirect measurements of distance, direction and elevation. It also includes the art of establishing points by predetermined angular and linear measurements. This year the survey camp was held at Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Gurgaon. The location, selected was perfect for surveying not only in terms of technical aspects but also the asthetic view urged the minds of the students to work. Different groups comprising of 10 students were formed by the teacher incharge. Each group were introduced so as how to carry out their assigned tasks such as forming contours by joining points of having equal elevation on the ground and representing the same on the map. All this is done by the use of latest equipments such as plane table, theodolite and many more. Students of each group commence with their tasks and work as a team. It is true that students find something for greater in the woods then they will find in books.
